Gordon Brown resigns, Labour searches a new leader

Gordon Brown has announced that he will quit as Labour party leader. Labour officials will meet today to arrange a leadership contest. A new leader should be in place by the party’s conference in September. Some analysts say that Mr. Brown has taken this decision to keep his party in the contest to secure a coalition government with the Liberal Democrats.
